Description
If you ask 10,000 Southerners if they feel the confederate flag stands for agreeing with racism, 8,500 will not even know what you mean by that. Yes, the Civil War was fought, in part, over slavery... Yes, slavery was wrong - still is. But, like other symbols, over the course of generations, the flag has taken on the meaning of Southern Pride. Oh, and yes, I agreed that the flag should be taken down from the State House grounds, as people who say that it offends them pay taxes in South Carolina. Because of that, it shouldn't be on public property. The United States was built upon freedom and liberty, and everyone is free to make up their own minds about what offends them. On television, if a show or whatever may be on offends you, you turn the channel. If the flag is adorning someone's private flagpole, don't look at it. Odds are the person is not telling you they are a racist... they are telling you they are Southern and they are proud of it.
